I stopped taking sugar with my coffee more than thirty years ago. If we take a reasonable estimate of five cups of coffee per day over thirty years, that would make it 54,750 cups of coffee. Not putting in sugar saves time for one thing, somewhere between 7 to 10 seconds per cup, or between 383,250 to 547,500 seconds over thirty years. In hours that comes to somewhere between 106 to 152 hours. Say about three weeks work. Do you have any idea how much can be accomplished in 150 hours? So where did it go?

Answer: Probably along with a few thousand other hours, screwing around on the net or with silly problems….
Still staying with the sugar, a heaping teaspoon of that substance has 25 calories, which means a savings of 50 calories per cup or a monstrous 2,737,500 calories over the years. Since a kilogram of body weight is equal to about 7,700 calories, that means I am 355.5 kilos less than I otherwise would be. About four people. And I still need to lose ten more kilos….
And the coffee itself. 54, 750 cups of coffee represents a retail cost of around I.S. 55,000 at current Israeli Tasters’ Choice prices. If we talk café and restaurant prices… well we don’t want to go there. A nice piece of change, but I don’t think I would have survived the thirty years without coffee. So we’ll call that a wash.
In the time it took to write this I could have added sugar to ninety cups of coffee.
Coffee, anyone?
