Here is a true story: In 2002, after 13 years of a civil war, the women of Liberia started a women’s movement uniting Christian and Muslim women, went out in to the streets dressed in white, singing a song with the words: "We want peace, No more war"
They danced and prayed, they contacted the media, they even had a sex strike, and in the end due to their pressure, the leaders (the men), finally sat down to try and reach an agreement,
but they didn’t succeed. At that point, the women blocked the doors and windows of the building, stopping the men with their bodies saying: “You are not coming out ‘till a peace agreement is signed! As long as you behave like children, go back in there, ‘till you behave like real men.
The war ended.
This is the power of women united. And let’s not get confused here. This is the power of women.
Ever since I met Leymah Gbowee, the leader of the Liberian women, at the march of hope, I have been working on this album, writing more and more songs, to remind us women of that power.
This music is absorbed with the marching women of the world- the women of Liberia, USA, Europe, Africa, China, India and our local Palestinian and Israeli women, who are working ‘till this day to promote a peace agreement.
I’m releasing this song with a prayer that it reminds us all, what women can manifest.

אני מתרגשת מאוד להוציא לאור את שיר הנושא של האלבום שבדרך-
״What about the Women״

תשמעו סיפור אמיתי: בשנת 2002 לאחר 13 שנים של מלחמת אזרחים, הקימו נשות ליבריה תנועת נשים המאחדת נוצריות ומוסלמיות, ויצאו אל הרחובות לבושות לבן, עם שיר שמילותיו: "We want peace, No more war"
הן רקדו והתפללו, פנו לכלי התקשורת, עשו שביתת מין, ולבסוף בזכות הלחץ האדיר שהן הפעילו, המנהיגים (הגברים) ישבו סופסוף לנסות להגיע ליישוב הסכסוך דרך שיח, אבל הם לא הצליחו. בשלב הזה הנשים ישבו מחוץ לדלתות המבנה, עצרו את הגברים בגופן ואמרו - "אתם לא יוצאים מפה עד שתגיעו להסכמה. כל עוד אתם מתנהגים כמו ילדים, תיכנסו פנימה עד שתתנהגו כמו גברים אמיתיים".
המלחמה הסתיימה.
זה הכוח שיש לנשים, ושלא נתבלבל כאן. זה הכוח שיש לנשים.
מאז שפגשתי את ליימה בואי, מהמנהיגות של נשות ליבריה, בצעדת התקווה של ״נשים עושות שלום״, אני עובדת על האלבום הזה וכותבת לו עוד ועוד שירים. להזכיר לנו הנשים, את הכוח הזה.
המוזיקה הזו ספוגה בנשים הצועדות מכל קצוות העולם- בנשות ליבריה, ארה״ב, אירופה, אפריקה, סין, הודו והנשים שלנו כאן, הפלסטיניות והישראליות, שפועלות ביחד עד היום כדי לקדם הסכם של שלום.
אני משלחת את השיר הזה עם תפילה שהוא יזכיר לכולנו, מה נשים מסוגלות לחולל."
